IJM Meeting

Wow, I am blogging like twice in one week! This trend is awesome. Anyways, I am on staff at one of the clubs at my school known as the College Chapter of International Justice Ministries. We had a club meeting on Tuesday in which we had a Law Professor and two of her students come speak about their experiences with IJM.

The professor had not had a lot of firsthand experience overseas, but she definitely supports the organization financially. The two students each had different experiences to share. One of the girls spent time in Uganda working as a law clerk and writing opinions which would influence the judges opinions on different court cases. The other girl spent extensive time in Uganda (often on her own) building relationships with people and seeking to provide stability in the lives of former child soldiers.

While those experiences were phenomenal and life changing, a theme started to become apparent in all three of the speakers presentations. People need to be a voice to bring justice to those who don't have a voice but that doesn't always necessarily mean overseas. We can all do justice right here where we live. We can seek out hurting people and have compassion on them. We can love those who are "unlovable." We can seek justice for foster children who are bumped from house to house with no one truly loving them by showing them love. There are many ways to bring justice and not all of them involve going overseas. So what are we waiting for?

Back to Planet Earth

Ok, so I realize that it has been a few weeks since I have updated my blog and for that I apologize. I have gotten sucked into the busyness of college classes and working but I have found some spare moments! HOORAY!!

So, basically a lot has happened. One of the most exciting things that happened was going to see a showing of Pirates of the Caribbean with a LIVE ORCHESTRA playing the soundtrack. Let me just say. A-MAZ-ING!!!! Wow. So much fun!!! Half of the time, you would actually forget that there was a live orchestra playing because the orchestra was so perfect it sounded EXACTLY like the soundtrack!!

My campus also has an event known as "Gotcha" that they play every year. Basically, you pay $2 and sign up. You get a ball and a name in your mailbox. Whoever's name you get, you have to hunt them down, tag them with the ball and say "GOTCHA!" Simple right? Think again. Not only are you being hunted down by someone else, but there are ridiculous safety's that people can do which makes them immune from being tagged. Such examples are: pretending to drive a racecar, pretending to swim or touching a tree. That last one was hilarious. People were walking around with mini-trees all over campus. And once you tagged the person who's name you had, you got the name they had plus all of the names of people they had tagged out. It gets quite complicated. I am proud that one of the girls in my dorm won.

In other news, I have not been feeling well. So much that today, I actually got confused and thought my boyfriend was out of state (instead of just 5 minutes away) and called him just to say hi. Yes, my delirium has begun. Oh my. Have fun with that everybody...

Oh wait, one more thing! I absolutely adore the children I babysit. They make my heart happy. Ok. Now that is all =).

Another New Beginning

Well, today is officially the first day of classes. And I am FINALLY almost completely organized. I moved in about 6 days ago, and STILL I am still looking for places to fit everything. That's ok though. At least all of my clothes managed to fit =). I am still positive that is a miracle. I had to get quite creative to get all of my summer/spring tops to fit in a single drawer. Let's just say that there was a LOT of overlap. That way, they would all fit in neatly,  yet I could still see everything. *Insert poor quality photo here*
Anyways, this past week has been kinda crazy! This weekend my boyfriend and I went to go see another live orchestra play Tchaikovsky's greatest hits and then there was a fireworks show afterwards. That was fun. The best part was that after the show is over, the ampitheatre it's located at plays a short cartoon afterwards so people don't get bored waiting for the gates to open so we can leave. This is because of the fireworks. I guess they have to wait until its safe or something. Anyways, the funniest line was said in the cartoon. The parents run up to the child and say "Guess what time it is?! Random present time!!" My boyfriend just started cracking up because he said that its every child's dream yet he doesn't know many parents that would actually do something like that. I just thought it sounded funny.

Yesterday, I got to spend a lot of time with my roommate. That was fun! The day didn't start out super well as we were in urgent care for a while, but everything worked out great! We went grocery shopping afterwards (we decided we are going to make our own soups this year) and got some fruit and other necessities. Yes, I consider peaches a necessity!!!! As well as cookie dough. Yum! Then we went to TGIFriday's for lunch. Sundays are happy hour all day so appetizers are half off. We love to eat cheaply ;). Then we just kinda hung out. I took a nap since I hadn't gone to bed until 6 in the morning the previous night. Or would that be day? Not really sure. Whatever. Then we went to NEVER ENDING PASTA NIGHT!!!! Best night ever. We (and by we, I mostly mean Rhi) kept scheming to figure out ways to eat more pasta so that we could take home more leftovers. We ended up taking as many leftovers as we could and calling it a night.

Now today is the first day of classes, but instead of getting my schedule together I'm posting on my blog and taking my vitamins. Oops, better go get ready for class!!

Lost Top #FirstWorldProblems and Playlists

So in the past few days I have been in the process of packing up my entire apartment so I can move back into my dorm tomorrow night. Which is exciting. Except for the whole packing part. Packing isn't exactly my strong point. I usually take about 18 different outfits for a 6 day trip. So you can just guess what my suitcases look like when I decide to go places. But thats ok. You may laugh at me now. But when we get stranded and I get to pass the time playing dress up, you will be sorry. Anyways I was probably about halfway packed (all my dresses, skirts and 80% of my tops) had been packed. Which just left a few tops, shoes and jeans to be packed when I realized that I had LOST my FAVORITE top EVER. Of course, my heart stopped beating and I felt a sinking feeling in my stomach. Where was it? So I did the only logical (or at least in Rhi-logic) thing at that point. I began frantically unpacking and running around my apartment looking in every drawer, under everything and in everything. Yet, I could not find the top.  I ran around like a madwoman for a few minutes when an idea struck me!

Now, my boyfriend lives in the same apartment complex as me. He just lives downstairs and so a lot of times my clothes are left in his apartment from times I have taken extra clothes with me or gone shopping and then gone straight to his apartment before heading upstairs to mine. So this would be easy. Just call him up and ask him if he could see it in his apartment right? Wrong. He is currently out of state with his family. But I was determined to find this top. So I headed downstairs and started banging on the door until his roommate let me in to search. My search was in vain however as I did not find the top. I drudged upstairs discouraged. Then I walk into my apartment and lo and behold. There sits the top. On my coffee table. In plain sight. Mocking me. So I found my top. And there was much rejoicing.

On a sad note, someone had left a watermelon in my boyfriends apartment too long and it decayed and splattered everywhere last night. They spent quite a while cleaning it and I feel really bad that no one called me and had me clean it. Needless to say, the description was so gross I don't think I'll be eating watermelon anytime soon. The things that happen in my life, I swear!!

Unrelated note, what would my blog readers think about me adding a playlist to my blog? Can I even do that? If I did that, would you like the blog more or less?

Anyways, I'd better go finish packing....but I'll post again soon. Maybe I'll even wear my favorite top for the my next post!

This WOULD Happen to Me...

So, as most of you may or may not have already figured out...stuff tends to happen in my life. Strange stuff. Take today for instance, I answered the phone at work as usual and then put the person on hold while I went to check something for them. Nothing out of the ordinary, right? WRONG. I got the person STUCK on hold. Yeah, you heard that right. Stuck. I kept pushing the button I would normally push to resume the call but it wasn't working. It kept trying to get me to make a new call but the button wouldn't change colors indicating the call had been dropped. So as I sat there, thoroughly puzzled, I couldn't help but laugh. The poor person on the other side!! I couldn't even hang the call up. They were sitting there, lost amidst the phone lines somehow completely unaware of my predicament. I had no choice but to just leave them waiting for about three minutes. Of course, when I tried three minutes later to resume the call, the phone didn't give me any problems.

Later, as I told one of the IT people, she just laughed at me. "You and your crazy problems," she said. I have to agree with her. The problems I do seem to have do seem to be quite unorthodox. Once, I even managed to accidentally get my screen flipped upside down so that I could only view what was on my computer upside down and I was left with no way to fix it. The poor computer people are always having to field calls of my bizarre problems.

Anyways, among other things Olive Garden has started their "Unlimited Pasta Bowl" for just $9.99. It was officially kicked off yesterday and runs for five weeks. Guess who one of the first people in line for the kickoff of this promotion was? Yes, yours truly. The servers were laughing at me as I told them how excited I was for this and how I had been waiting all day for it. Just another day in the life of Rhi. Everywhere I go, I somehow seem to amuse people. But its mostly by accident. I'm being Rhi and they think it to be hilarious. I suppose that's Rhi-ality for me =).

She Made It!!!!!

Just to update everyone, I posted a blog earlier this week explaining my dear friend Victoria's story and posting the link to donate money to her. Well I am pleased to tell you that she successfully raised the funds that she needs for the deposit. Please continue to pray as these are just the funds for the deposit and she needs to continue to pay off her schooling for the rest of the year. But her spot is secured for Fall 2012! Thank you Jesus.

Mennonites and Chiropractors - A Peek into my Rhi-ality

So I'm sure from the title you are wondering what the heck is going through my head. Well let me tell you, you will never completely understand the oddities that run through my head on a daily basis. That's why I will only give you a peek. I'm telling you. It will be  a small peek that your minds will be able to handle. Anyways, I'm not sure how many of you know what a Mennonite is so let me see if I can help. Basically a Mennonite is like the Amish people only they believe in electricity. Or something like that.

Anyhow, I met some Mennonites. And you will never guess where! I was visiting a burger place and what do I see? A man with a HUGE beard carrying a small child behind me. At first I thought it was odd, but the little kid was cute so I started talking to him. He must have been very hungry because he was eyeing everyone's food as they passed by. The child that is, not the father. His dad said that they were on a road trip and he hadn't eaten and so he was hungry. Then, lo and behold, a lady and two little girls come walking up in handmade clothes. At this point I was so interested in this family that I exclaimed "WHOA!!! DO YOU MAKE YOUR OWN CLOTHES? THATS AWESOME!!" They smiled graciously and said yes. I then said to my boyfriend Scott "I should do that. Only I probably can't. Because if I had to only wear clothes that I made, I would probably be naked a lot of the times." The Mennonite family looked a little surprised and laughed at me. I wonder why...Then I had to order my food and stop holding up the line so I didn't get to talk to them anymore. Then as we were eating outside, the man approached us and introduced himself. He said that he was from out of state and gave us a CD to listen to about God. We said that we were both Christians and would look into it and he said goodbye. As soon as he was out of earshot I looked at the CD and said "GOOGLE IT!!!" So we smartphoned with Google and found out that they were from a Mennonite background. I told you so. I know a Mennonite when I see one!! So that's the story of how Rhi met Mennonites. At a burger place of all places. Oh my life...

Also, I just got back from the chiropractors office. It was an interesting experience. He didn't even look at my back. I was under the impression that chiropractors were back doctors. Well I guess not. Anyways, he slathered my arms/wrists/hands with this Icy-Hot stuff. Only minus the Hot so it was basically just Icy. He then used an ultrasound on it. He told me why he did that but I forgot so I'm not really sure. I'll probably google why later.. Anyways you should have seen the look on his face when I asked him if it was a boy or a girl. I know, I know. It wasn't that type of ultrasound. But I felt like seeing what his reaction would be to such a question. He looked quite shocked and so I had to explain I was just kidding. I can't tell if he was disturbed or amused. Either way, it cracked me up that's for sure. After doing that, my arms felt cold and I was ready to go home. So I did. And I get to go back tomorrow. I can't believe he gets paid to make peoples arms cold. I'm sure I could just buy some of my own Icy-Hot minus the Hot and set up my own chiropractic shop all by myself. JUST KIDDING! I understand he is a licensed professional. That's why he knows why he ultrasounded my wrists and I don't. Maybe if I went to Med School I'd know why to ultrasound someone's wrists.

Anyways, that's all for now. Keep checking as I am planning to post more later on this week or early next!! Also follows ItsjustRhi on twitter and I'll tweet every time I make a new blog post!
